Veronica Sumegi has had a diverse background from architecture to acupuncture, lecturing in philosophy at UNSW and finally to publishing.  This diversity of experience has helped her manage and run Brandl & Schlesinger Publishing, now located in Blackheath, which she established with her partner 23 years ago. During this time Brandl & Schlesinger has established a reputation as one of Australia’s most renowned independent publishers. They have encouraged and published first time authors, many of whom have won major awards and gone on to establish successful literary careers. 


Veronica’s role as Publishing Director includes all aspects of the editorial process, selecting titles for their list, author liaison, selling foreign rights, marketing, promotion and distribution. On two occasions, Veronica has been a member of the Independent Publishers Committee of the Australian Publishers Association. She has strong affiliations with the Australia Council Literature Board, having been a recipient of many publishing grants. She has been a regular participant at the Frankfurt Book Fair and has established the reputation of Brandl & Schlesinger internationally through her strong network of overseas publishers and agents. Veronica is a member of the Small Press Network and annually attends Books at the Melbourne International Film Festival. Veronica is a member of the Board of Varuna, the National Writers House.


Veronica has been a resident of Blackheath for 25 years and is a passionate advocate for the Arts in the Blue Mountains.
